Currently, portable consoles are booming, and during our visit to Computex 2024 in Taipei, we were able to see several. Some of them from brands such as ASUS, MSI or Zotac, but today we will focus on the XPG NIA prototype from ADATA. As always, you are invited to review our launch note, so that you can learn every detail of this portable console.

Now returning to our protagonist, ADATA’s new portable console is just a concept, so it does not have a market release date. And as a result of the above, the portable console could undergo some changes, at least in the software part. This is because talking to one of the engineers behind this product, he told us that the exhibition demo had a Windows operating system, but the commercial version will probably arrive with Linux. This is due to several reasons, such as, for example, that Linux provided better performance in some tests, and that costs could also be lowered for the Windows license.

Regarding the concept that the company proposes with the XPG NIA, it turns out to be quite interesting. Since it has several striking features, such as the option to tilt the screen to improve comfort, or that the user can increase the RAM, because it uses LPCAMM2 type memories. Just as it has PCIe M.2 SSD storage options of 2230 and 2280, depending on the console variant.

It also has a front camera with eye tracking, very useful for games like shooter. In addition, several of its parts and pieces are manufactured with 3D printers, in order to improve repairability or customization.

During our time at Computex 2024 we were able to test ADATA’s new portable console prototype. So you are invited to know our first impressions of the XPG NIA.

What do you think of ADATA’s portable console proposal?
