This new function is that of the default creation of a hidden applications folder, to which you can move all those you want so that they are not visible. This folder is protected by a biometric identification system, in this case Face ID. Only the owner of the phone who has the face registered as an authentication system can access that folder.
In this way, a very important step is taken in privacy. On certain occasions, adults lend their phones to their children so they can entertain themselves for a while, and there are sensitive applications that it is interesting for them not to see. But it’s not just that, there are applications that can be manipulated by mistake and cause some inconvenience, especially if you have documents related to your work on the iPhone. The hidden folder was created with this purpose, to remove it from the list everything that does not interest us in the event that we lend the phone to someone.
As an additional measure, it is now possible to protect each application individually using Face ID, Touch ID, or an unlock code. Although there are some applications that already included it, it is now possible thanks to iOS 18 to apply it to all those that interest you. For example, I have put it in the Photos application and its operation is impeccable, so I do not doubt that it is like this in the rest of the apps that we find on our iPhone.

There is a whole summer ahead for this operating system to finish taking shape, since it is in the development phase. For now, what we have seen is encouraging, although the big star, Apple’s artificial intelligence called Apple Intelligence, is not yet available. The company itself, already warned that this artificial intelligence will currently be available for only two phones, the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max, waiting for the new releases that will be made in the month of September. So, it is a type of artificial intelligence that consumes a lot of resources, and that will not be available to all iPhone users. Specifically, 90% of them are left out.
Other improvements such as scheduling the sending of messages, voicemail transcription or the redesign of the photo gallery with the ability to expand or reduce the flashlight’s halo of light, are now available to all users.
