Google Chrome is one of the most used web browsers in the worldpartly because it comes preinstalled by default on the vast majority of Android phones on the market, but also because it is above its rivals in fluidity and speed. In fact, Chrome has recently been chosen as the fastest web browser of the moment by the Speedometer 3 speed test.

But from Mountain View they are very aware that they need to continue improving their web browser if they want to maintain that privileged position and that is why they have recently updated the Google Chrome app for Android with a feature that brings Picture in Picture mode to your smartphone.

This is how Chrome’s new ‘minimized custom tabs’ work for Android

A few weeks ago Google announced through the Chromium blog, the open source version of Chrome, the arrival of a new function to the Android app called ‘minimized custom tabs’ and now this new tool is now available for all users of the big G web browser.

What this functionality does is allow you open a tab in a pop-up window in the purest Picture in Picture style so you can continue using other apps and recover this tab when you need it.

This new Google Chrome feature is already activated by default, so to use it you just have to open a web page in the browser, tap on the “simplified view” button and click on the down arrow icon that appears in the top bar just to the right of the close button.

Once you click on this arrow, the selected tab will open in a pop-up window that It will be located by default in the lower right corner of the appp, although you can move it around the screen to place it in the position that is most comfortable for you. Likewise, if you click on the center of the window it will be shown full screen and if you want to close it you just have to drag it to the bottom of the screen.

To protect your privacy, in this pop-up window the name and logo of the website will be seen, but not its contentsince to access it you will have to click on the icon in the center of it to maximize it.

This new feature of Google Chrome for Android is being deployed starting from version 124so if you still don’t have it available, make sure you have the Big G app updated to the latest one.
