Elon Musk declares war on Apple over the future ‘AI’ of iPhones

Elon Musk, owner and CEO of Tesla, Space X, The Boring Company and In the magnate’s opinion, the risk will be palpable starting next fall, as soon as the new versions of the apple smartphone hit the market.

Knowing the capabilities of generative AI, Musk believes that the benefits will be colossal as soon as the algorithms are enriched with personal context information typical of mobile phones. Few devices store as much information as that which circulates through smartphones. In addition to communications and call data, there is also geolocation data, payments on e-commerce sites, contacts, emails, photographs, access to social networks and all types of applications.

Among other details, access to the information that users themselves generate every minute with the use of their mobile phones will allow generative AI to make a prodigious leap. For now, the information will be reliable, will be related to the interests of each person and will presumably be free of the hallucinations and errors that often abound in ChatGPT for home use. The Apple Intelligence platform, unveiled at the Apple Developer Conference (WWDC), “combines the power of generative models with personal context to offer an incredibly useful and relevant experience for each user,” explained the Cupertino company. Therefore, the Apple firm’s AI will be fully integrated with the iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS Sequoia operating systems. And it will also take advantage of the power of Apple chips to “understand and generate words and images, perform actions in various apps and interpret personal context in order to simplify and speed up everyday tasks.”

Given the risk that this personalized AI poses in matters of personal data protection, Apple ensures that the tool Private Cloud Computer “sets a new standard in AI privacy by being able to adapt and scale computing power between on-device processing and larger, dedicated server-based models of Apple chips.”

This week, Musk has gone further than usual by threatening to ban access to iPhones in all of his companies starting when the partnership between Apple and ChatGPT materializes. Macs, iPads and other devices from the apple company will also not be able to enter as they represent an “unacceptable security violation.” The warning could be executed at the end of the year, the date on which the alliance in terms of Artificial Intelligence between the two technologies is expected to materialize. In addition to the aforementioned Apple, the tycoon also broke ties with Walt Disney Co through messages from X.

Last February, the businessman offered to finance the complaints of employees of the media group who feel harmed by the hiring criteria of the audiovisual content company. “If you were discriminated against by Disney and its subsidiaries, simply respond to this post for legal support,” Musk proposed. On that occasion, Musk targeted almost twenty newspapers that, in his opinion, practiced policies contrary to human rights.

Also considered the worst CEO of the year, according to other top executives of large companies, Walt Disney favors underrepresented groups in his hiring and activity criteria, but to the detriment of the rest of the employees.
