The Microsoft Copilot Plus suite, which brings a number of new AI features, will remain exclusive to the Snapdragon X Series laptops at launch. That means you’ll only be able to enjoy those features on a laptop with Qualcomm’s new ARM processors on June 18.

Currently available AMD Hawk Point and Intel Meteor Lake systems will not officially receive AI features due to the NPU requirement. As Microsoft describes, Copilot Plus AI features require an NPU with at least 40 AI performance TOPs. The good part is that the next-gen processors from both companies meet this requirement.

To be specific, the NPU inside the AMD Strix Point processors can offer up to 50 TOPs while the Intel Lunar Lake NPU can offer up to 48 TOPs of AI performance. But even after meeting the requirement, they won’t get the Copilot Plus features at launch.

Intel’s Thomas Hannaford says: “Lunar Lake will get Copilot Plus experiences through an update when available” These new processors are expected to launch in Q3 2024. AMD Strix Point CPUs are expected to be available in August, but as the company’s Matthew Hurwitz says, the expected timeline for the new AI features to land on new AMD laptops is late 2024.
