As part of the Sunny Side of the Doc event in La Rochelle (France), BBC Studios and France Télévisions have unveiled a new long-term strategic partnership to develop and co-produce “top-level” factual content.

He multi-year agreement the past began April 2024 and includes the co-production of non-scripted content BBC Studios. For the BBCthis agreement represents “a natural step” after their successful collaboration in the co-production of factual programmes of all genres in recent years, including award-winning Frozen Planet II, Planet Earth III and, more recently, Mammals, from the BBC Studios Natural History Unit. Confirmed upcoming titles to be co-produced under the new deal include the recently announced BBC Studios Science Unit series, Walking With Dinosaursa thrilling reimagining of one of the BBC’s best-loved factual programmes.

The new agreement also includes the first option in pre-sales and acquisitions of all the extensive factual catalog of BBC Studios. Confirmed pre-sales include two titles from BBC Studios’ Science unit: Solar Systemwhich explores the amazing events that unfold on the planets and moons of the Solar System that surround us every day, and Eartha historical series that tells the amazing four-billion-year story of the place we call home.

Chris Kinsmansenior vice president of factual area for EMEA at BBC Studios, considers that this “fantastic” alliance with France Televisions “Not only will it strengthen the production we are able to offer audiences in France, the UK and beyond, but upcoming titles like Mammals and Walking With Dinosaurs are only possible thanks to collaborations like this.” On the other hand, Antonio Grigolinidocumentary director France Televisions, adds: “France Télévisions is proud to share common public service values ​​with BBC Studios. “We look forward to continuing our fruitful partnership and joining forces to produce some of the most ambitious and impactful factual content on the market.”
