Review | Kingdom Hearts: Its definitive collection comes to Steam

Kingdom Hearts, the successful saga from Square Enix and Disney, has arrived with everything on Steam and it has recently sKingdom Hearts -HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX-, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue and Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind have been released, collection that covers almost the entire history of the successful saga, in a series of games ideal for all those who have never had the opportunity to play the saga or for those who relive the story of Sora, Donald, Goofy and Kingdom Hearts once again.

The first thing to talk about is what each of the compilations includes, and that is that with the names, and all the content that exists for Kingdom Hearts it can be a bit difficult to follow, in the case of the first Kingdom Hearts -HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX-we met with:

  • Kingdom Hearts FINAL MIX
  • Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories
  • Kingdom Hearts II FINAL MIX
  • Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days (HD cutscenes compilation)
  • Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep FINAL MIX
  • Kingdom Hearts Re:coded (HD cutscenes compilation)

This compilation was released for the first time in 2013 for PlayStation 3 and we could say that it covers the entire first part of the saga.

Although the games have their time, it is worth remembering that Kingdom Hearts Final Mix is a re-edition of the first installment that was released in 2002, that is, more than two decades ago and the same goes for Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix, which is coming Being a re-edition of the second installment, these do not look bad at all and although it is obvious that the differences are noticeable when comparing it, for example, with more modern games, such as the third installment, they are still quite playable.

In this sense, a graphical upgrade that the games have had helps, improving their backgrounds, as well as the different options that we find in these compilations and is that together with the unlocking of the second frames, in our case we had no problem playing in 2K with 170 fps when playing the different installments of the different collections, which speaks of the good optimization of the titles -although how old they are may also have an influence-.

The second game that arrives as part of this collection corresponds to Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue. This title serves primarily as a link to Kingdom Hearts 3. This is how we find:

  • Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance HD:
  • Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover (movie):
  • Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep – A fragmentary passage –

Finally we have Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mindwhich as its name indicates includes the third installment, plus its DLC, thus closing this collection of games.

It should be mentioned that the arrival of this “trio” of games, It’s easily one of the best ways to enjoy Kingdom Hearts right now, since they have different settings to tailor the experience to your needs and are even compatible with the Steam Deck, allowing you to play the different installments that make up these games without any major problems outside the home.

*In line with the above, a criticism that is repeated among players and that in our case we could not test, is that the game, being the same version released on the Epic Games Store a few years ago, has a problem on the Legion Go and ROG Ally, which closes every few minutes, so we recommend that you take this into account if you use these consoles to play.

Another element that must be mentioned and that we find when talking about this collection – which is called Kingdom Hearts Integrum Masterpiece on Steam – is to have Japanese voice audio in addition to English in the various main games, in addition to Steam achievements and cloud saving, to be able to go from the PC to the Steam Deck without any problems. All these features give it an extra plus that makes the games that make up this collection even more enjoyable.

If we compare it with the previously released versions, we will not find major differences, but if like me you prefer to have all the games in one place and you are a fan of Kingdom Hearts or you want to try it for the first time, this is undoubtedly the best way to do it.

Perhaps the last thing to keep in mind is that having all the games installed will take up more than 150GB of space, which, although not entirely exaggerated considering how much games weigh today, is still a considerable amount of space. The other thing is the price and that is that the Integrum Masterpiece, that is, the entire collection, is at $57,959 Chilean pesos and that is with a 31% offer (Until July 11), a figure that is quite high, especially if you already own these games or collections on other platforms, after all, we are talking about games that are years old.
