The elimination of all trust funds, including the one that finances the gas subsidy in the so-called “cold zones” was one of the points that appeared in all the documents that circulated and were part of the agreements between the Executive Branch and the Governors to promote the so-called Base Law.

However, thanks to the work in committees and the parliamentary debate, the legislators representing the Patagonian provinces managed to maintain the subsidy and managed to turn around an issue that seemed very complex.

“As a result of a permanent claim that not only radical legislators have maintained, but also Patagonian legislators, we achieved changes in the Base Law and that the subsidy for domestic gas in cold areas is maintained,” said national representative Roxana Reyes.

Thus, the legislator confirmed that the Trust Fund for Residential Gas Consumption Subsidies will be maintained for the coldest area of the country.

“This is vital for our province and the region and constitutes very important news that brings peace of mind to the community,” Reyes stressed.

The representative stressed that this is not a benefit but rather a compensation that helps to cope with the low temperatures and is vital for the inhabitants of a vast region of the country.

“Cold Zone” is key for our region: it is an economic benefit that we Patagonians receive in gas rates due to the greater consumption of this resource due to our climatic conditions. This benefit is financed through a Trust Fund, which does not generate fiscal costs for the National State,” Reyes noted.
