The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the most famous telecommunications company, Nokia, will collaborate with SpaceX to launch a rocket that carries a 4G connectivity network to the Moon. If they achieve it, this great step will allow the planet to be inhabited.

A SpaceX mission will bring internet to the white satellite this year. The lunar landing module will be installed at the south pole of the moon and will be controlled from Earth. However, it is not yet known exactly what the takeoff date will be.

Walt Engelund of the NASA Space Technology Mission Directorateexplained that the main challenge for the network to work is to have a qualified cellular devicewith a certain weight, size and, also, sufficient energy to be used.

Furthermore, the expert pointed out that the device must be suitable for operating in the hostile lunar environmentdue to extreme temperatures and radiation.

The 4G connection module will allow the search for frozen water on the satellite, carried out by the Micro-Nova Hopper robot, to be transmitted from space. This technology will be key for Humanity will set foot on lunar soil again in 2026as NASA foresees.

How do astronauts communicate in space?

Today, space travelers communicate through a radio system and the installation of the Internet will allow NASA to transmit in High resolution videos of space missionsso that the inhabitants of Earth can see what is happening hundreds of kilometers away.

“Being able to communicate on the Moon is essential for Artemis”Engelund assured and stressed that 4G technology on the satellite is as important as water to drink and air to breathe.

Engelund said establishing a lunar communications network could help explorers transmit scientific data instantly or talk to their families more fluentlyjust like terrestrial technologies such as WhatsApp.
