Singh: Workers must do their fair share

Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industry Relations Agni Deo Singh highlighted that workers must do their fair share of work.

He made this comment during the Fiji Trades Union Congress (FTUC) 50th Biennial Delegates Conference held in Nadi yesterday.

“The workers must be fair in their performance and must do their fair share of work,” he said.

Mr Singh said his ministry would ensure that the workers got their fair share of pay, provided they did their work diligently and with honesty.

“I have experienced this in the last several months talking to employers as well, while I am ensuring that our workers would be taken care of, but as workers we must be fair in our performance.”

He said the Coalition Government had proven themselves by getting heavily involved after coming into office with multiple approaches on many things that affected the workers in the country.

“We have taken on board the labor law review, removal of contractual agreement for civil servants, revocation of COVID-19 vaccination, amendment to the ENI listing alongside review of the national minimum wage and tripartism.

“As we commemorate the 50th Biennial Conference, let’s reaffirm your commitment to upholding the values of solidarity, equality and justice for all workers.”

Mr Singh said it was important to celebrate the union’s achievements, learn from their experience and chart a course for a future that is built on the principles of fairness, inclusivity and respect.
