NBA: Darius Morris, former player of Pau Gasol’s Lakers, dies at 33 | NBA 2023

The former University of Michigan Wolverines player and draft pick by the Los Angeles Lakers, Darius Morrishas died at the age of 33, according to his family.

The cause of death has not yet been revealed, although TMZ has reported that Morris’ body was found in Los Angeles, where he was originally from, last Thursday.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved son, Darius Aaron Morris“Morris’ family told TMZ. ‘During this time of transition, his family asks that you respect his wishes for privacy and grace.’

Morris was a second round pick of the Lakers in the 2011 draft. He averaged 3.3 points in 132 games of his career (17 as a starter) with the Lakers in which he shared a team with Pau Gasol and Kobe Bryant, and four other sets in four NBA seasons. He then played professionally in China and France and his last active season was 2019-20.

The Lakers have said in a post on X that they are “heartbroken by the passing” of Morris.

Another person who wanted to say goodbye to Morris was the coach John Beilein “I am saddened to hear of the passing of former Wolverine Darius Morris. In 2010-11, Darius was our starting point guard. He was a leader in that project that delivered a 21-win season and laid the foundation for a decade of Michigan success. RIP DMo and my deepest condolences to the Morris family,” he wrote in X.
