Pune: After an accident during a trek recently, a software engineer (45) from Rahatani took a break from office and wanted to invest in the stock market. However, he lost almost all his and his wife’s savings to a scam. Between April 22 and 30, cybercrooks posed as executives of a prominent share broking firm and assured the victim of 20 percent returns daily. “The victim said shortly after leaving his job , while checking social media for investment opportunities, he got calls from people claiming to be officials of a prominent share broking firm. He was promised handsome returns and accepted the offer,” PR Shikalhar, assistant inspector, Wakad police, said.The victim got a link; he was told to download the firm’s app and transfer money to account numbers mentioned there. “Between April 23 and 30, 15 transactions were made from his two bank accounts and his spouse’s account. A total of 84.50 lakh was siphoned. They lost Rs 99 lakh overall,” he said.Three more loses 58L Cybercrook claiming to be a prominent stock broker duped a retired man (61) of Rs 24.8 lakh between Jan and March this year. In another such case, a woman techie (38) from Dhankawadi was cheated by cybercrooks of Rs 10.31 lakh between Dec 2023 and March this year. Similarly, a 46-year-old resident of Pimple Saudagar lost Rs22.80 lakh to cybercrooks from Jan 30 and Feb 21 this year.
