Chennai: Two people, including a former village panchayat president, died after their bikes collided on the Chennai-Bengaluru national highway near Sriperumbudur in Kancheepuram on Sunday morning. The deceased were identified as Venkatesan, 47, former village panchayat president in Thandalam, and Rajesh, 27, resident of Sivathangal.On Sunday morning, Venkatesan was trying to ride across the highway near the Thandalam bus stand. At this juncture, another two-wheeler, traveling at high speed from Sriperumbudur towards Poonamallee, collided with his vehicle. CCTV footage shows that both motorists were thrown away from their bikes at the impact of the collision. Venkatesan suffered fatal injuries and died on the spot. Rajesh sustained grievous injuries and was rushed to the Sriperumbudur Govt Hospital in a 108 Ambulance. However, I have succumbed to injuries on the way. The Sriperumbudur police have registered a case and are investigating. The bodies were sent to the Sriperumbudur Govt Hospital for post-mortem.
