The POT He continues his research on the solar system. One of the latest discoveries has been a lava lake on Jupiter’s lunar surface. The discovery was made through the Juno spacecraft, in charge of exploring the planet’s satellite. The volcanic surface had an extension of 200 kilometers with several eruptions within it.

According to the space agency, the eruptions are so powerful that they are perceptible from telescopes on Earth. This lava logo is called Loki Pateraand has been observed for decades.

One of the study’s experts, Scott Bolton, points out that the lava that cools in the center of the lake is surrounded by magma. “The specular reflection our instruments recorded from the lake suggests that parts of Io’s surface are as smooth as glass, reminiscent of the volcanically created obsidian glass on Earth.”said the scientist.

Additionally, Bolton points out that craggy islands of rock cluster inside the lava lake. “There are amazing details showing these crazy islands embedded in the middle of a potentially magma lake rimmed with hot lava”he stated.
