PHILIPPI — Freshman Landyn Carpenter collected three RBIs to lead top-seed Philip Barbour to an 11-4 win over No, 4 Elkins Tuesday night in Class AA, Region II, Section 1 action.

The Tigers, who defeated fifth-seed Liberty Monday at home, will now play in an elimination game on Thursday.

The Colts, meanwhile, host No. 3 Lincoln this evening. The Cougars knocked off second-seed Robert C. Byrd on Tuesday.

RCB will now entertain Liberty today in an elimination contest.

Carpenter’s RBI sacrifice fly in the first gave Philip Barbour a 1-0 cushion.

The Colts tacked on four more runs in the second when Jack Wilson plated a run with a single, Tyler Sisson lofted an RBI sacrifice fly and Carpenter delivered a two-run double to stretch the lead to 5-0.

Elkins answered in the third when Lincoln Scott cracked a two-run single, scoring Brock Holland Drew Hinzman.

The Colts pulled away in the sixth with a five-run outburst.

Kent Rowan started the scoring with an RBI single and Nick Gonzales and Jacob Gray drew a bases-loaded walks to make it 8-2.

Kale Wolfe then singled out Gonzales and Slaton Harris and Wolfe later scored on an error for the final run.

The Tigers added an RBI single by Caleb McCauley in the sixth and a run-producing single from Scott in the seventh.

Wolfe and Rowan had two hits each in the win, while Scott had two of Elkins’ four hits.

Albert Gonzales went the distance to earn the win, striking out eight and walking two.

Scott went the first two innings in taking the loss. He gave up five runs — four being earned — on five hits and striking out two.

Owen Stanley and McCauley finished in relief.

Philip Barbour improved to 14-10.

In Monday’s 5-3 win over Liberty, the Tigers led 5-0 after four innings to hold on for the win.

Scott had three RBIs on the night, including an RBI double, Ethan Humphrey an RBI double and Holland and Brayden Biller two hits each.

Humphrey earned the win on the hill, with Scott collecting the save.
