Supersubmarina have come to La Resistencia to promote ‘Something that serves as light’, the Penguin book in which journalist Fernando Navarro narrates his rise to fame cut short by a car accident, and ‘La maqueta’. The album about their beginnings has recently given them their first number 1 sales in Spain, especially thanks to its good performance on vinyl.
This interview has happily been more marked by humor than those on the day they presented the book, logically. That day that thrilled the press and a few fans, receiving a minute of standing applause, has given way to joy. If that day when they asked that if someone cried, it would be from happiness, there had already been some note of humor, David Broncano’s program has been the perfect one to develop that facet. The group is happy to have appeared in the media again and wants to celebrate it.
The presenter of La Resistencia does not avoid some mention of the serious accident, but it is superfluous. This is the opportunity to tell, for example, how preparing the book helped them to reunite as friends. “We are super happy to be doing things again,” says Juanca. “Fernando’s interviews served us a lot as therapy and have led us to make decisions that have helped us be much better,” she adds.
Furthermore, although Jose El Chino has lost his memory of what happened a few years before and a few years after the accident, the others help him make connections that allow him to recover it. Although he does not remember his own concerts or his own songs, Jaime says that when he left the ICU, a friend started to play him a scale of ‘Puta Vida’, he made a wrong note and El Chino, who couldn’t even speaking, he said: “you are wrong by a semitone. It was D sharp, which was not D!” They also joke about a bass that once came in too late.
In the classic part of the program in which they talk about fucking and bank savings, Supersubmarina seem satisfied, especially El Chino in the former: “We try one a week at least,” he says in reference to his girlfriend. Jaime survives with the compensation he receives for having almost suffered an amputation of his leg and having undergone 8 years of operation after operation, and Juanca is the most fair, since his wife is 7 months pregnant and It is autonomous. The book ‘Something that serves as light’ is now in its third edition in a month.
