KANSAS CITY — Brady Singer has quickly become the grizzled veteran of Kansas City’s rotation.

Sure, Michael Wacha and Seth Lugo, who were added this offseason, have years on Singer in the big leagues, but when the Royals have needed someone to turn to in recent years it’s been Singer that’s gotten the call.

It happened again on Wednesday afternoon, when Singer gritted through 5 1/3 innings in the Royals’ 6-4 series-clinching victory over the Brewers at Kauffman Stadium. He threw 29 pitches in the first inning, but worked into the sixth inning by using his sinker-slider combination to force weak contact and get quick outs.

It was the 27-year-old’s 100th career start, becoming the 26th pitcher in franchise history to achieve that feat. And like he’s done so many times, Singer, the only current starter to pitch in Kansas City’s rotation before the 2023 season, sealed the Royals’ first series win against a team over .500.

Bobby Witt Jr. led the charge offensively with a solo homer in the eighth inning to go along with a double, a walk and three runs scored. Michael Massey added two sacrifice flies, but his career-best 10-game hitting streak came to an end.

With the Royals holding a 3-2 lead in the seventh inning, MJ Melendez unleashed a 91.1 mph dart home that nabbed Oliver Dunn to keep it a one-run game. Kansas City added three runs in the eighth with RBIs from Adam Frazier and Freddy Fermin before James McArthur came in with one-out in the ninth and picked up his eighth save.
