Freshman standout Karlee Layne’s RBI double deep to center field gave Stuarts Draft a thrilling 6-5 walk-off softball win over East Rockingham at home on Wednesday.
Allison Brooks, a senior outfielder, tripled to lead off the ninth inning for the Cougars and was brought home for the game-winning run in the lead at-bat by pitcher Layne.
Freshman infielder Madison Miller was 2-for-2 with a double to lead Draft while freshman Addyson Dameron and sophomore Allyson Lunsford had a hit and two RBIs each.
Emberly Coffey, a senior first baseman, also chipped in with an RBI single for the Cougars.
Isabelle Cubbage, a senior, finished with two hits and three RBIs to lead the Eagles in the non-district loss while senior second baseman Emily Campbell had two hits and two RBIs.
Freshman outfielder Sydney Short also impressed with a pair of hits as well for East Rock.
Caroline Eppard, a freshman, impressed with four solid innings, giving up one unearned run on a trio of hits and a walk while striking out four before being pulled prior to the fifth.
Draft (10-6) returns to action Monday at Shenandoah District rival Wilson Memorial while the Eagles (6-12) will host Valley District opponent Harrisonburg that same evening.
