Fire in Villa Ballester: a gas pipe exploded and a house caught fire

The Buenos Aires town of Villa Ballester, San Martín district, was the protagonist this afternoon of a strong explosion and a fire that affected a home and several apartments, so there are two injured and residents of an entire block evacuated.

The incident occurred on the corner of Reconquista and Professor Aguer streets after municipal workers carrying out patching works accidentally punctured a gas master pipe. Volunteer Firefighters and Civil Defense are working at the scene while members of the gas supply company are trying to repair the leak.

“My whole house burst. It was truly crazy, a horror movie. My mother was saved because she was not there, but her room exploded. If she was there, she would die,” said a neighbor in statements to the TN news channel. “My house was destroyed, everything burned. “I lost my home and my cat,” he added.

In this context, Mario Oyarzo, head of the Villa Ballester fire station, explained to the same medium: “We are waiting for the gas people to cut off the service to extinguish the fire. “They are looking for the valve to make the cut in the best way.”
