The Government began this month with the removal of subsidies from electricity and gas rateswhich will cause a significant increase in these services, especially for users of middle and low income.

It is estimated that electricity rates will increase by up to 155%while gas ones will rise a 30%.

Segmentation is classified into three levels:

— High income (N1)

Resolution 92/2024 of the Ministry of Energy that was published this Wednesday in the Official Gazette established the Seasonal Price of Energy (PEST) in $57,214 per megawatt hour (MWh) for all residential users during the period of May to October.

N1 households, as well as businesses and industries, will pay the 100% of the cost of electricity, which will represent an increase of 20%. The N2 will receive a bonus of 71.9% and the N3 of the 55.9%while until April these groups paid only 4% and 3% of the price.

To illustrate, the Ministry of Energy estimated the increases for average residential consumption of 260 kWh:

— N1: from $24,710 to $30,355 (22.8%).

— N2: from $6,295 to $12,545 (99.3%).

— N3: from $6,585 to $16,850 (155.9%).

On the other hand, Resolution 90/2024 establishes new consumption limits with subsidy. This means that those who exceed will pay much more for electricity.

For N2 users, the limit is 350 kWh/month (700 kWh/month in cold areas). For N3, the limit is 250 kWh/month (500 kWh/month in cold areas).

Resolution 91/2024 also established the price of natural gas at the Point of Entry to the Transportation System (PIST) in USD 3.29 per million BTU (British unit of measurement for gas) for the period from May to October.

N1 users they will continue to pay USD 3.29 per million BTU; N2 will receive a 64% bonus, paying USD 1.18 per million BTUan increase in 55%; and the N3 will receive a 55% bonus, paying USD 1.81 per million BTUan increase in 64%.

During the transition period (June 1 to November 30, 2024), users N2 and N3 will have a consumption limit of 41 cubic meters per month. The consumption that exceed this limit they will pay the full price of USD 3.29 per million BTU.

The Ministry of Energy estimated the increases in average residential bills:

— N1 (average consumption of 149 m³): from $25,756 to $28,142 (9%).

— N2 (average consumption of 159 m³): from $15,638 to $20,797 (32%).

— N3 (average consumption of 171 m³): from $24,465 to $26,865 (9%).

Users registered in the Registry of Access to Energy Subsidies (RASE) do not need to register again. Those who have not done so, despite receiving assistance, will be excluded in 60 days if they do not complete the registration. (Infobae and Clarín)
