A total of 594 students from ten schools in Córdoba participate in the activities that the City Council’s Education Delegation has organized on the occasion of Environment Day, which is celebrated this Wednesday. These activities have consisted of environmental workshops, green itineraries and an exciting ‘escape city’. As detailed by the City Council in a note, the programming began on June 3 with the development of the aforementioned workshops in six schools, with the participation of 248 students. In addition, green itineraries have been organized through the Cruz Conde Park and the Sotos de la Albolafia, with the participation of 205 schoolchildren from two schools.
Both activities will run until June 7, providing students with a valuable hands-on learning opportunity about the environment. The highlight of the celebrations took place this Wednesday with a city game called ‘Water vs. Dry: The Guadalquivir River Mission’. In this activity, 141 students from CDP Ferroviario, CEIP Ciudad Jardín and CEIP Azahara de Villarrubia were organized into teams to participate in an exciting ‘escape city’.
During the activity, the students discovered the natural values of the riparian forest, They explored the trees, observed birds in the Sotos de la Albolafia, examined fossils of ancient fauna and learned about the problems of desertification and how to combat it. At noon, participants gathered at the Road Traffic Education Center for the awards ceremony. The delegate of Education and Childhood, Narci Ruiz, presented the awards to the winning teams.
The first prize went to the Los Ornitorrincos Group of the CEIP Ciudad Jardín, the second prize went to the Los Mágicos Group of the CDP Ferroviarios and the third prize was awarded to the Los Verdes Group of the CEIP Azahara. Ruiz thanked all the students for their participation and highlighted the motto with which this year the event is celebrated. World Environment Day: ‘Our lands. Our future. We are the Restoration Generation.’
The delegate stressed that “this type of activities, both the workshops, the green itineraries and the ‘escape city’ held today, are very interesting initiatives because they allow schoolchildren internalize the values of respect for the environment in a playful way“In addition, the councilor added that “the different programmed proposals allow students to discover the city and expand their knowledge about the natural heritage of Córdoba.”
These activities not only seek to raise environmental awareness, but also to foster a sense of responsibility and connection with nature among young people. The environmental workshops have been designed to provide students with in-depth and practical knowledge about various aspects of the natural environment. During these workshops, students have had the opportunity to learn about the importance of conservation, recycling, biodiversity and sustainability.

The green itineraries, for their part, have offered students the opportunity to explore and appreciate some of thes most important natural spaces in Córdoba, such as Cruz Conde Park and Sotos de la Albolafia. These guided tours have allowed students to get up close and personal with the local flora and fauna, as well as understand the importance of preserving these natural spaces for future generations.
The ‘escape city’ has been a particularly outstanding activity, combining learning with fun and teamwork. The students, divided into groups, have worked together to solve puzzles and related challenges with the environment, thus promoting collaboration, critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Overall, the activities organized by the Education Delegation of Córdoba City Council on the occasion of Environment Day have been a resounding success, managing not only to educate young people about the importance of caring for the environment, but also to inspire them to become active defenders of nature in their daily lives.
