Now that everyone is talking about music festivals, we join the trend by giving it a twist: let’s talk about cinema. Because the Show FIRE!! in its 29th edition and comes loaded with pearls that will bring us closer to other realities that will move us through the power of stories and empathy. From June 6 to 16, the French Institute of Barcelona will be a meeting point of enriching perspectives with more than 50 films, shorts and documentaries from France, Brazil, Macedonia, Mexico, Norway, the United States and many other countries. A mosaic of powerful stories that through the cinematographic experience reminds us that the fight for equality is universal.

A legacy and a reference

Let’s remember that LGTBIQ+ cinema is not something recent. Beyond the 80s, examples of films that shed light on this topic were almost non-existent or showed a very negative image, which is why initiatives such as Mostra FIRE!! They are not only necessary, but essential to preserve the memory of the group and give a reference to new generations. Under the motto Sow Stories, Harvest Memories, the contest is consolidated as a space where you can find inspiring stories that promote acceptance, inclusion and diversity. Because we should not underestimate the power of cinema to make you feel and see beyond your own limits.

Our favorites: 5 movies you can’t miss

As always, the festival presents a diverse program with sections such as Trans Screenwith 8 films on this theme, To l’Est de l’Edenwith a special selection of Asian-made lengths, The Look of French Cinemawith interesting cinema proposals from the neighboring country or the tribute to Ventura Pons by screening his famous film about the figure of the Andalusian painter, Ocaña, intermittent portrait. 1.- L’Arché De Noé (Under The Rainbow)an introspective journey to identity

The opening film of the Mostra is an intimate and moving portrait of a group of LGBTIQ+ young people who reside in a shelter.
