Now that everyone is talking about music festivals, we join the trend by giving it a twist: let’s talk about cinema. Because the Show FIRE!! in its 29th edition and comes loaded with pearls that will bring us closer to other realities that will move us through the power of stories and empathy. From June 6 to 16, the French Institute of Barcelona will be a meeting point of enriching perspectives with more than 50 films, shorts and documentaries from France, Brazil, Macedonia, Mexico, Norway, the United States and many other countries. A mosaic of powerful stories that through the cinematographic experience reminds us that the fight for equality is universal.
A legacy and a reference
Let’s remember that LGTBIQ+ cinema is not something recent. Beyond the 80s, examples of films that shed light on this topic were almost non-existent or showed a very negative image, which is why initiatives such as Mostra FIRE!! They are not only necessary, but essential to preserve the memory of the group and give a reference to new generations. Under the motto Sow Stories, Harvest Memories, the contest is consolidated as a space where you can find inspiring stories that promote acceptance, inclusion and diversity. Because we should not underestimate the power of cinema to make you feel and see beyond your own limits.
Our favorites: 5 movies you can’t miss
As always, the festival presents a diverse program with sections such as Trans Screenwith 8 films on this theme, To l’Est de l’Edenwith a special selection of Asian-made lengths, The Look of French Cinemawith interesting cinema proposals from the neighboring country or the tribute to Ventura Pons by screening his famous film about the figure of the Andalusian painter, Ocaña, intermittent portrait. 1.- L’Arché De Noé (Under The Rainbow)an introspective journey to identity
The opening film of the Mostra is an intimate and moving portrait of a group of LGBTIQ+ young people who reside in a shelter. With just six months to find a job and a home, they embark on a journey of self-discovery as they navigate the challenges of acceptance in a society that doesn’t always understand their identity. An ode to resilience, friendship and the power of community.
You will like it yes: You enjoy the stories of groups of friends who come together in the face of adversity. A film to laugh and reflect on the challenges of youth: was it always so difficult? Quite a universal feeling.

2.- Norwegian Dreamsa romance between cultures
The first feature film from director Leiv Igor Devold envelops us in an atmosphere of romance and drama, with the frosty beauty of the Norwegian landscape as a backdrop. Inspired by true events, the film tells the story of Robert, a tough Polish immigrant worker who arrives on the cold shores of Norway in search of a better future, and Ivar, the exuberant, black adopted son of the wealthy plant owner. The film explores themes such as cultural displacement, economic inequality, sexual identity and the search for true love.

3.- Les Jours Hereuxtrue success is being able to be who you are
Film that invites us to immerse ourselves in the life of Emma, a rising artist who struggles to find her voice, break the chains of the past and achieve fulfillment in all aspects of her life. In her early thirties, she must deal with a complex relationship with her father and agent, Patrick, who has exerted domineering control over her since her childhood. Aware that she is not reaching her full potential, she faces a crucial decision: is she willing to sacrifice everything to succeed in the music industry? Or should she free herself from the yoke of her father and take charge of her own life? And then, she meets Naëlle, a recently separated cellist and mother of a boy who will turn her world upside down, for the better.

4.- Onlythe story of two universal passions
An electrifying story that immerses you in the vibrant world of Montreal drag through Simon, a rising star on the local scene, whose life is turned upside down by the arrival of Olivier, a man who is everything he has ever wanted. In the midst of this whirlwind of emotions, Simon also struggles to connect with his mother, Claire, an absent opera singer who represents the maternal figure he longs for. Desperate for her affection and approval, Simon embarks on a journey of searching for identity and acceptance through two loves, and no, it’s not going to be easy.

5.- unicornsa love without labels
Luke is a mechanic and single father whose life takes an unexpected turn when he meets Aysha, a seductive British Indian woman. The attraction between them is instant and passionate, but an unexpected secret threatens to alter their connection: Aysha is not a cisgender woman, but a female drag queen. From here, Luke and Aysha embark on an exciting journey of self-discovery and acceptance. Together, they deconstruct traditional labels and confront social prejudices surrounding transgender people.
You will like it yes: You are one of those who bite your nails hoping that love will triumph in the movie. And no, it’s not a spoiler: the initial premise is intriguing enough to keep us in suspense throughout the story, waiting for the best fate for Luke and Aysha.
