Saint Petersburg (Russia), (EFE).- Russian President Vladimir Putin assured today that the judicial persecution of former US President Donald Trump is an example of the “use of the judicial system in political struggle.”

“It is evident to everyone that the judicial persecution of Trump, without evidence, is a use of the judicial system for political struggle,” Putin said in an interview with the heads of the main international news agencies, including EFE.

The head of the Kremlin assured that Americans themselves do not trust their country’s judicial system and this is proven by the increase in Trump’s popularity after his conviction.

“People in the US do not believe in these decisions and consider that they have a political background,” he insisted.

Trump was found guilty last week of 34 crimes in New York, based on a trail of checks, invoices for incorrect concepts and refunds to buy the silence of porn actress Stormy Daniels for a night in a Lake Tahoe suite.

The Kremlin already commented on this decision a few days ago by ensuring that the White House wants to “get rid of a political rival.”

“It is obvious that this is the elimination of a political rival by all legal and illegal means,” said Russian Presidency spokesman Dmitri Peskov.

At the same time, Putin assured today that the result of the upcoming presidential elections in the United States “does not have great importance” for Russia.

“We believe that nothing will really change much after the elections in the US,” he said.

At the same time, he reiterated that the current US president, Joe Biden, is an “old school” politician and therefore is “predictable.”

A few months ago Putin declared that Moscow would prefer Biden to be re-elected next November.
