What a huge surprise the workers of a construction site in the Frankfurt airport. In the middle of it, within the airfield grounds, they have found a bomb dating back to World War II. This was confirmed this Friday by the German Police, who specified that the device will be controlled detonation in the next few hours.
As the authorities have confirmed, it is a white phosphorus bomb, very common during World War II, when they were used on a large scale. To avoid the presence of onlookers and other reasons that could make your work difficultthe Police have cordoned off a one kilometer radius around where the artifact has been found.
So far, air traffic and nearby roads have not been affected by this finding, as reported by a spokesperson. However, the airfield has warned travelers that interruptions could occur on flights that were scheduled to take off between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m..
Unexploded bombs
This is not, however, the first bomb of this type to be found in the German city. Already in 2020, the authorities had to evacuate 13,000 city residents after finding a half-ton bomb from the same war period. On this occasion, however, it was not necessary to evacuate the neighbors.
During the conflict, the British and American troops dropped 1.5 million tons of bombs over Germany, so from time to time it is common to find some of them unexploited. It is believed that about 15% of these bombs did not explode due to technical problems, leaving some of them underground.
