The 99 Cents Only chain, a long-time icon of the Los Angeles discount retail world, founded its first store in 1982 on La Tijera Boulevard and expanded rapidly. Although it had a presence in Arizona, Nevada and Texas, the majority were in Southern California, including Lancaster, North Hollywood, Burbank, Long Beach and Riverside.

Dollar Tree would have purchased at least 93 of the chain’s discount stores throughout the Golden State, according to reports from the Retail Specialists brokerage. Most of the stores are in the south.
