Former President of the United States Donald Trump returned to the Capitol this Thursday for the first time since the assault on January 6, 2021 to meet with Republicans in the Senate House of Representatives, and his first visit to Washington since he became the first former president of the country to be found guilty of 34 charges for the bribery of former porn actress ‘Stormy Danies’.
“There is tremendous unity in the Republican Party,” he said in a press conference after closed-door meetings he held with legislators from his political party. “We have great unity, great common sense, and there are a lot of very smart people in this room. They love our country beyond everything else,” he said.
After stating that his party colleagues want “this country to be great again – and we are going to do it -“, he explained that they want to “see the borders, a strong Army” and that “the money is not wasted Worldwide”.
“People will come to our country, but they will do so legally. They are not going to arrive en masse from prisons throughout South America and the world (…) A large number of them are terrorists and we are not going to allow it,” he indicated in in line with its traditional discourse on immigration matters.
Likewise, he added that the Republican Party wants to “see fair success” for the country, something that they do not have “at this moment”, because they consider that they are “a nation that is in decline”, in “decadence”, that “everything the world” “laughs” at the United States and the leader, in reference to Joe Biden.
“We are going to turn the situation around. The polls seem to be very favorable to us. And no matter where you look, in fact many states that people thought were not in play are very strongly in play. In some of them “we are leading,” he stated, since he will face the current president in the presidential elections in November of this year.
Republican lawmakers have explained that Trump has addressed the issue of immigration and the economy, as well as the various legal situations he faces. While the magnate visited the Capitol, the Biden campaign published a video criticizing Trump’s responsibility for the assault on the Capitol by his supporters.
“On January 6, Trump set this country on fire, fanning the flames of division and hatred, now he is pouring gasoline, promising clemency to the extremists who tried to overthrow our government, inciting them to try again. There is nothing more sacred than our democracy. But Trump is willing to burn it all,” he said.
