Donald Trump returns to the Capitol for the first time after the 2021 assault

With the electoral polls slightly in his favor and the seal of conviction on his back, Donald Trump returned triumphantly to the Capitol this Thursday as the presumptive official candidate of the Republican Party for the presidency of USA. He came to meet with the congressmen of his formation from the House of Representatives and the Senate. It is a visit full of symbolism, the first since on January 6, 2021, Trump incited the attack on Congress to then prevent the peaceful transfer of power.

In an event aimed at revitalizing the group’s support and showing unity, the packed house of House of Representatives enthusiasts sang “Happy birthday” to the former president in unison at a private breakfast at Republican campaign headquarters across from the Capitol. Meanwhile, anti-Trump and pro-Palestine groups protested in the street.

The millionaire, who has purged his critics, has managed to take over the Republican party, now almost entirely dedicated to supporting his electoral campaign. The high-level meeting included praise for the president of the House, Mike Johnson for “doing an excellent job”, and with the review of the well-known issues that furnish his campaign, such as the mass deportations of immigrants and new permanent tax cuts on multimillion-dollar incomes. He also spoke of cuts to Social and Medical Security on which retirees depend, as well as to the prosecutor’s office that is investigating him.
