The virtual winner of the presidential race in Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, suffered a car accident when she and her team were traveling on a road in Monclova, in the northern state of Coahuila.

According to police reports, one person died in the car accident and three others were injured. The event occurred when the politician from the Morena party (National Regeneration Movement) was heading to the Pasta de Conchos mine, where President Andrés Manuel López Obrador was visiting.

Days before, the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare reported in a press release that in the mine they had found human remains and tools of 63 miners from a 2006 accident.

According to the facts, a vehicle in Sheinbaum’s convoy had a mechanical problem and, at the junction between the Mexico-Piedras Negras federal highway; and the Carlos Salinas bypass, collided with another vehicle.

The deceased person was identified as a woman, who was traveling as a co-pilot in the impacted vehicle. After the spectacular crash, three more people were treated for injuries.

An information card shared by the Federal Government to local media detailed: “We deeply regret that a person died in the other vehicle. Those who were in the two impacted vehicles are being given attention by the federal and state governments and Dr. Sheinbaum’s own team.”

It is worth mentioning that the next president of Mexico was not injured. Some snapshots shared by users on social networks show how Sheinbaum stopped on the side of the road to help her team; and wait for municipal and state emergency teams.

It is expected that Sheinbaum’s next arrival points will be Durango, Coahuila and Tamaulipas, the same states that López Obrador will visit as part of his work as head of the Federal Executive Branch.

Until the preparation of this report, Sheinbaum had not issued any statement on the matter.
