This Sunday, at 101 years old, he died Francisco Eladio Gómez Yepes, considered the father of marketing in Antioquia and to whom the Senate of the Republic conferred this year the order of Congress in the rank of Knight, for his strong character, his unwavering values and clear ideas.
Pacho Eladio, as he was known, was born in Donmatías, Antioquia, in 1922. He was the first administrator of the Atanasio Girardot stadium and Secretary of the Treasury of Medellín.
It was also director of Banco de Bogotá, Postobón and Gaseosas Colombianas, in the latter two before they passed into the hands of Carlos Ardila Lülle.
In 1970 he joined the National Chocolate Company, where for more than 20 years he served as vice president of marketing and secretary of the board of directors.
In addition to being part of the creation of the iconic album Jet, with which he tried to help people acquire greater knowledge.
His son, Francisco Eladio Gómez Rendón, in a recent interview with this newspaper maintained that his father was the architect of the country’s largest distribution network for soft drinks, which even today reaches the most remote places in Colombia.
In folders kept in the library of his Medellín apartment, Don Pacho kept a good part of the history of the National Chocolate Company and the Jet album.
“He toured the entire country and left an indelible mark that is still recognized today. “The father of marketing in Antioquia has been frequently heard,” said those close to him.
The Eucharistic celebration will be this Monday, June 24, at 9 in the morning, in the Church of the Divine Word.
