“The best legacy of a father to his children is a little of his time every day”, León Battista Alberti. Being a father is simply giving love and one of the most rewarding tasks in this world. We especially salute all the dads at UM on their day!

Father’s Day is celebrated on the third Sunday in June. The history of the date that we commemorate this June 20 dates back to the beginning of the 20th century, when Sonora Smart Doddthe daughter of an American Civil War veteran, wanted to honor her father for raising his six children alone.

It is valid to note that in Argentina we also celebrate Father’s Day on August 24.

In 1924, Calvin Coolidge, 30th president of the United States, supported the idea of making this day national, and in 1966, President Lyndon Johnson finally declared the third Sunday in June as Father’s Day.

The anniversary was adopted the following year in the state of Washington and soon became popular throughout the North American country. In 1966, President Lyndon B. Johnson recognized it as a national holiday and in 1972 it was officially proclaimed by his successor, Richard Nixon.

In Argentina this day is also celebrated on August 24 in honor of General José de San Martín, considered the “Father of the Nation”. The date was chosen for the birth of Mercedes Martín de Escalada, the only daughter of the liberator and his wife, Remedios de Escalada.

We also share on this special date, an exciting article from La Prensa about a hero father from the Malvinas.

We share the following audio prepared by our Internet Radio School (REPI)
