MICHIGAN – At least nine people were injured Saturday in a shooting at a water park in Rochester Hills, Michigan, local police said, including a young child.

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office noted that they located a possible suspect in the vicinity of where the shooting occurred. Sheriff Michael Bouchard told the media that it appears the individual fired, reloaded, fired again and then retreated, adding that there appears to be no connection between the shooter and the victims. He also reported that there were an estimated nine to ten victims of different ages, including an 8-year-old child.

Bouchard noted that SWAT personnel and armored vehicles have been deployed to the area as the search for the suspect continues. Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer expressed her deep dismay at the event. In a statement, she said she was monitoring the situation and maintaining contact with local authorities for updates on the ongoing incident.

Authorities continue to investigate the shooting and are working to ensure safety in the affected community.
