Fire in Los Angeles County consumed more than 5,600 hectares

(CNN) — A fire in Los Angeles County burned more than 5,600 hectares and is only 2% contained, according to Cal Fire. The post-fire area dealt with wind gusts ranging from 45 mph (72 km/h) to over 65 mph (104 km/h) since Saturday and, along with very dry air, conditions were difficult for firefighters. firefighters fighting for containment.

The area remains under a high wind warning until early Tuesday and a red flag warning until Monday afternoon. Gusts are expected to increase to 112 km/h (70 mph) tonight and will begin to gradually decrease to 48-80 km/h (30-50 mph) during the day on Monday. Dry air is expected to remain over the area for the remainder of the afternoon and will recover moderately during the evening hours.

Sunday night conditions in particular are most favorable for a rapid pace of fire growth.

A growing California wildfire spanning more than 10,000 acres is forcing residents to evacuate.

“The fire is currently moving toward Hungry Valley Park. California State Park Services evacuated 1,200 people from Hungry Valley Park. Pyramid Lake is closed due to the threat of the Post Fire,” Calfire warned.

The wildfire started Saturday afternoon in Gorman, an unincorporated community in northwest Los Angeles County. According to Cal Fire, the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
