In most cases, traveling is not usually cheap. Between travel, accommodation and leisure expenses we can reach spend a lot of money. However, the Government has re-established the discount so that young people between 18 and 30 years old travel through Spain and Europe in a more economical way.
This Monday, June 17, the Ministry of Transport page has been opened so that those who want to request it can do so. A discount that can be used from July 1 to September 30, 2024. These are the requirements that exist to be able to access the young summer discount.
Requirements
In order to access it we will only need some personal data such as our name and surname, date of birth, ID and date of validity thereof. In the event that it is a foreign person —with legal residence in Spain— whoever wants to apply for it must present the NIE along with the support number of the European Union Citizen Registry or the Foreigner Identity Card (TIE), nationality and municipality of residence.
We can also access the registry through the Cl@ve identification system. Once we enter our data and it is confirmed that everything is correct, the ministry will send us an email with a code that is unique and non-transferable. It is important to know that if we want to use this discount we must register 24 hours before purchasing the first ticket.
Penalties for improper use
In the event that the Government’s youth summer discount is not used appropriately, we may be sanctioned. These are some examples:
- A unique and non-transferable code: the ministry may fine us up to 750 euros by train or with up to 200 euros by bus if someone else uses our discount.
- In the event of not taking the trip we have purchased, we must cancel it at least 24 hours in advance. From Transport they point out that “the company may reduce this period in accordance with its usual marketing and sales practices.”
- Accumulating 6 improper uses means the cancellation of the discount code.
How much are the youth summer discounts?
These are the sales and discounts offered by the Verano Joven 2024 program for this summer:
- 90% for: conventional medium-distance trains, metric gauge trains and state bus lines
The discounts will be applied to single and round-trip train tickets.
- fifty% for: high speed, conventional long-distance trains, AVANT trains and Interrail.
Interrail discounts will be applied to the 10-day Global Flexible pass in 2 months, when sold through Renfe.
