The Argentine pilot Lorenzo Somaschini, 9 years old, died this Monday night after having been hospitalized in intensive care since last Friday, as a result of the accident he suffered in free practice of the fourth date of the championship Brazilian Superbike.

The confirmation of the death was confirmed by the competition organization on its social networks: “SuperBike Brazil reports, with great sadness and pain, the death of driver Lorenzo Somaschini this Monday (6/17), at 7:43 p.m. The Argentine, born in Rosario, was admitted to the Albert Einstein Hospital, in San Pablo, under intensive medical care and, unfortunately, he did not resist.

Lorenzo was one of the promises of his category. Born on July 17, 2014, “Lolo” became passionate about motorcycling by his father, who gave him a mini motorcycle when he was 4 years old, and that’s where his career began. It debuted on April 13 at the national SuperBike in Buenos Aires during the Argentine Speed ​​Motorcycle Championship.

It was he himself who told his story in an interview with Paseo Tuerca. “I am 9 years old and I come from Rosario. Since I’ve been running for four years. My dad rode a motorcycle, when I was four years old he took me to meet him and I liked it there. I started with a 50cc. “My dream is to reach GP and be world champion”he said in a video that went viral on social networks.

On her Instagram account, Lolo had uploaded a post hours before the accident accompanied by a short text: “Fulfilling dreams… First training session in Interlagos Brazil preparing for the Junior Cup”.

The Honda Junior Cup is one of the most recognized youth competitions on the continent which brings together riders between 8 and 16 years old on 160 cc motorcycles with pedals and handlebars adapted to the size of each young person.

Before his debut in the Argentine Superbike, Lorenzo spoke with The capital. “One day my dad took me to the supermarket to fill up on gas, I don’t remember well, but we took a ride on a 125cc that belonged to my grandfather and I loved it,” he said on that occasion, and confessed: “That’s where something that didn’t grab me caught me.” I know how to explain it. I liked him a lot and well…Motorcycles began to fascinate me and here I am, ready to race”.

In the interview he also told his dreams and expectations. “I must learn a lot, because I lack experience”admitted Lolo, as if he were an experienced pilot, and added: “For now I will go racing at the Superbike and if everything goes well, as I hope, then I can go to the Brazilian championship. And from there who says.”

“Also I hope one day to be at the Chicho Lorenzo Academy in Spain. Even if it’s just one or two weeks. Those are also objectives that we have with my parents. But First you have to debut here and try to have a good career“, he claimed.
