Last Tuesday, Valeria Wasserman Chomsky, originally from Brazil, told the AP news agency that her husband was in a hospital in Sao Paulo, where he was taken in an ambulance plane with two nurses. The couple has had a residence there since 2015.

Wasserman Chomsky confirmed the details of a health report to the Brazilian newspaper Folha de Sao Paulo, where she said that her husband has difficulty speaking and that the right side of his body is affected. He is visited daily by a neurologist, a speech therapist and a pulmonologist.

Chomsky’s health has led the family to consider moving to an apartment near the beach in Rio de Janeiro after reading that living in a sunny location can help stroke patients.

Noam Chomsky was born on December 7, 1928 in Pennsylvania, United States. He is Professor Emeritus of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Professor Laureate of the Department of Linguistics at the University of Arizona. In this field he stood out for proposing “generative grammar”, a study that centralizes linguistic research in syntax and published multiple books such as “The Secrets of Words”, “Why Only Us. Language and Evolution”, “Language In Our Brain”, among many more. However, Chomsky managed to enter the collective imagination through his philosophy and political books.

He has been an active activist for Palestine. In 2015, together with the Israeli historian Ilan Pappé, he published the book “On Palestine” and, even though hospitalized, he continues to show his support for the country, his wife explained to Folha de Sao Paulo, saying that her husband follows the news and that, when he sees images of the war in Gaza, raises his left arm in a gesture of regret and rage.
