Scaglione is a specialist in international politics and led Argentina’s accession process to the OECD, as Undersecretary of State between 2016 and 2019. He spoke about the process that our country will face to achieve admission to the entity.

The Legislature of Mendoza received the accountant yespecialist in politics and international cooperation, Marcelo Scaglionewho gave a conference in the Auditorium of the Margarita Building.

In the presence of the Vice Governor Hebe Casado, the Provisional President of the Senate, Martín Kerchner Tomba; the manager of ProMendoza, Patricia Giménez; and legislators, Scaglione spoke about the process that our country will face to achieve the admission of Argentina into the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the importance of Mendoza in this journey.

“It is a rocky path, especially after the last four years that we traveled full of stones, but even with all the stones on the ground, those that have been thrown at us, this continues, which is proof that we must continue” , assured Scaglione at the beginning of his presentation to illustrate the situation in which the country is regarding its entry into the OECD.

And he added: “The OECD allows you to go from underdevelopment to development in 25 years, that is, we are beginning the first path so that our children and our grandchildren live in a country different from the one we live in.”

It is worth remembering that the OECD is an organization that brings together a few countries, but they originate 75% of investment and 60% of global trade. It is a select and relevant group and a closed organization. From time to time, the countries that make it up decide to expand the number of members, but it must be taken into account that in 60 years it went from having 20 members to 38. Only 18 countries joined in six decades.

“Argentina, at the beginning of 2016, during the presidency of Mauricio Macri, requested, firstly, that a new access process be opened, and, secondly, that his candidacy be considered. But, the OECD, when it opens a process, does not do so for a single country. And at that time there seemed to be no other candidates. In any case, we began to walk that path. Then Romania presented its candidacy, also Peru, a year later Brazil and later Croatia and Bulgaria,” he commented.
