Although he ruled out that it is “an unprecedented crisis” as maintained by the sector in other parts of the country, the secretary of the Hotel and Gastronomic Business Federation of the Argentine Republic, Marcelo Barsuglia, warned of layoffs as a result of the increases in rates and rents. “We are in a dangerous state, we hope we can continue to endure this moment,” he said.

In dialogue with the agency APF, Barsuglia reviewed the situation of the hotel and gastronomic sector in the province. The main tourist cities register hotel occupancy rates below 20% and gastronomy suffers a year-on-year drop of 12%.

Although he ruled out that it is “an unprecedented crisis” as maintained by the sector in other places in the country, the secretary of the Hotel and Gastronomic Business Federation of the Argentine Republic, confirmed that in cities such as the provincial capital, workers are being laid off. .

He pointed to the economic context of the country, with a sharp increase in rates and rents: “We are in a dangerous state, because this increased our costs a lot and today people really do not have the money to be able to go out for lunch or dinner, travel and go to a hotel,” he said.

“We hope we can continue to endure this moment so that, when the economy recovers a little, we can quickly get out of this crisis again,” he added.

Simple Fee Program

Barsuglia highlighted the implementation of the Simple Installment Program promoted by the national government and that allows purchases in 3, 6 and 12 installments with a “significantly low” interest.

However, he regretted that this benefit does not reach the gastronomic sector: “It is used to buy plane tickets, bus tickets or hotel reservations, but not for gastronomy,” he said.

Long weekend

Regarding occupancy levels during the last long weekend, Barsuglia confirmed that it was between 42 and 50 percent. He indicated that this figure also occurred as a result of the coincidence with Father’s Day, which was celebrated in the country last Sunday, June 16.
