MIAMI, Florida – Miami’s already intense political atmosphere turned into a “poster war.”

It all started with a controversial poster that showed the image of Fidel Castro doing negative publicity against Donald Trump. A second billboard appeared in the same location, paid for by a small floor cleaning company in Palm Beach.

Claude Taylor, the financier of the first poster that started the controversy, commented that although his poster was removed from the Palmetto, it is now displayed on a cart that travels around the Versailles restaurant and other emblematic points of Little Havana.

José Alberto García, owner of the company American Tile & Grout, responded by raising funds through social networks to counteract the impact of the initial sign. “Each sign costs $4,000, and we decided to do a GoFundMe to fund our response,” García explained. “Donations ranged from $5 to $500, demonstrating the support of the community.”

Both sides agree that figures like Fidel Castro, Hugo Chávez and Nicolás Maduro are dictators, leaving former President Donald Trump in the middle of a controversial comparison. “You can have opinions against Trump, but comparing him to a tyrant who has caused so much suffering is provocative and unconscionable,” García said.

The exile community in Miami, known for its strong opposition to socialism, continues to protest so that images of dictators do not appear in public places in the city. “We are not going to fall into violent confrontations,” García said. “We will respond with our initiatives and our messages of freedom.”
