The world of design has lost one of its most emblematic figures. Pepe Cortés, internationally renowned Spanish designer, passed away on June 22, 2024 at the age of 78. With a career that spanned more than five decades, Cortés left an indelible mark on interior and furniture design.

Born in Barcelona in 1946, Pepe Cortés trained at the Eina School in Barcelona, ​​where he found his passion for industrial design. His innovative approach and ability to fuse functionality and aesthetics earned him a prominent place in the contemporary design landscape.

One of his most recognized works is the Jamaica chair, designed in 1991. This iconic piece, with its chromed steel structure and wooden seat, quickly became a reference in bars and restaurants around the world. He designed furniture and lamps for BD Ediciones de Diseño, Akaba, Grupo T, Artespaña, Signes, Amat, Technal and Melalarte.
