The Fire Department of the South Korean city of Hwaseong reported this Monday the discovery of more than 20 bodies inside a battery factory affected by a serious fire.

“About 20 bodies were found” at the site, the South Korean Yonhap agency indicated, citing a member of the operation’s firefighters, Kim Jin-young, who declared to the press that the fire was under control.

Local media had initially indicated that the fire at the Aricell company had left one confirmed dead and three injured and that firefighters feared for the lives of 23 employees who were inside the factory when the fire started.

At the moment, the authorities have not offered details about the condition of the victims, something common in cases of this type in South Korea.

It is feared that the number of people who could not be contacted will rise to 23, although it is believed that the number could change since the list reflecting the number of employees who were at the plant at the time of the fire has been destroyed. by fire.

The Yonhap agency reported that most of the people who could not be contacted are foreigners.

Although the causes of the fire are still unknown, a worker who managed to escape the fire told firefighters that suddenly one of the batteries suffered explosive combustion.
