A former employee of the Trump Organization, engineer Barbara Res, has revealed that presidential candidate Donald Trump joked about Nazi “ovens” during a meeting with managers of Jewish companies in the 1990s.
“We had just hired a residential manager, a German, and Donald was bragging to the executives, there were four of us at the time, about how nice the guy was, a real gentlemanso neat and clean, and he looked at a group of our executives who were Jewish and said ‘Be careful with this guy, he remembers the ovens’ and then he smiled,” Res said in statements to the network. “Everyone froze. She couldn’t believe she had said that, but he was making jokes about Nazi ovens and killing people. “That’s how it was,” he added during the interview to present his memoir ‘Tower of Lies’, ‘Tower of Lies’, in reference to Trump Tower.
Trump joked like this with the ovens crematoriums and gas chambers of concentration camps of the Holocaust, in which Nazi Germany murdered more than six million Jews.
Both Trump and his rival, Joe Biden, are campaigning for the Jewish vote. Trump has assured that it is the best option to resolve the dispute in the Gaza Strip, while voting Democratic means “hating both Israel and Judaism.”
In recent days, the second gentleman, Doug Emhoff, said that the re-election of President Joe Biden is crucial to combating anti-Semitism and accused Donald Trump of “fanning the flames” of hate in comments after speaking at the scene of a 2018 synagogue shooting in Pittsburgh.
Emhoff, husband of Vice President Kamala Harris, called the November US election a “binary” election between Biden, who is “moving forward against hate and anti-Semitism”and Trump, who has cited his record with Israel in attacking Jews who vote for Democrats.
“When someone like that tries to tell a Jewish person like me who to vote for, It’s just outrageous”Emhoff said in an interview on Sunday.
Emhoff, the first Jewish wife of a nationally elected American leader, has been an outspoken voice in the White House against anti-Semitism at home and abroad. She has acted as a comforter to American Jews, most recently after anti-Semitic incidents broke out following the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel and the subsequent military campaign against the group, which the United States and the European Union classify as a terrorist organization.
Speaking early Sunday at the dedication of a new campus that includes a memorial to the victims of the Tree of Life synagogue shooting, Emhoff said anti-Semitism has since risen to “unprecedented levels.”
“When Jews are attacked for their beliefs or identity, and when Israel is singled out for its anti-Jewish hatred, that is anti-Semitism, and must be condemned clearly, unequivocally and without context”Emhoff told the audience.
