Why Keylor Navas is not playing in Costa Rica in the 2024 Copa América

The goalkeeper decided to retire from the Costa Rican national team, after 16 years and 114 games defending the three suits, plus historic participations in three consecutive World Cups (2014, 2018 and 2022), and becoming one of the best players in the history of Central America.

“I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the memories we have made. Together we have made history, facing the best players in the world, raising the name of Costa Rica to the highest level,” were Keylor’s words to communicate his decision to put an end to his career in Costa Rica.

“Keylor’s decision surprised us. In the federation, the team and the country we are going to miss him very much. He was always a person who made a mark and those decisions, no matter how hard they may seem, must be respected. “I gained another friend in football,” said Gustavo Alfaro, coach of the National Team, when the news was announced, and given the loss of a reference within the squad.
