Review of That ’90s Show

Hello Wisconsin!, once again, as “That ’90s Show” is back on Netflix with a new installment, a year and a half after its debut on the platform. To continue the adventures of the Formans and the legacy of the space that opened its doors to them more than 25 years ago: “That ’70s Show.”

The youth sitcom that with its eight seasons, between 1998 and 2006, managed to conquer the public in a transversal way and become a classic. All thanks to the crazy experiences and opinions of a group of friends, as well as those of the unique adults who surrounded them.

Some of whom also returned in the spin-off that debuted in January 2023, with Bonnie and Terry Turner as its creators, the couple of comedians, screenwriters and producers who also devised the original production that marked a generation of viewers.

Leia’s first summer at her grandparents’ house

In a renewed visit to Wisconsin that introduced the youngest Forman: Leia (Callie Haverda), the daughter of Eric (Topher Grace) and Donna (Laura Prepon), since she arrived to spend the Fourth of July 1995, but stayed every vacation with her grandparents Kitty (Debra Jo Rupp) and Red (Kurtwood Smith).

The same couple that became the favorite adult couple of the original series and in “That ’90s Show” stole the screen again from the first minute of the plot. When Leia -named by Eric in honor of his beloved “Star Wars”- arrived at his house in the fictional town of Point Place.

The same place where the young girl, just like her parents and their friends had done, made her basement the meeting place with her new friends: Gwen (Ashley Aufderheide), Nate (Maxwell Acee Donovan), Nikki ( Sam Morelos), Ozzie (Reyn Doi) and Jay (Mace Coronel).

The boys are back with more crazy situations

The group of somewhat confused teenagers that returns in the more than fun second season, when it is already 1996 and Leia comes to spend another summer with Kitty and Red, trying to forget the small mishap that occurred a few months ago; her when she almost made out with Nate before returning to her home.

Something unknown to Nikki, the boy’s girlfriend, and Jay, the protagonist’s love interest and with whom she hopes to have a real relationship. However, the quasi-deception will put her possible courtship in check a bit, while for Nate and Nikki things get more difficult than expected.

Although they are not the only ones with heart complications in the group of friends, since Ozzie suffers a disappointment and Gwen is afraid of love. At the same time, Red reunites with one of her least favorite people: Bob Pinciotti (Don Stark), Donna’s father who returns to the neighborhood.

Which is complemented by the usual and somewhat “freaky” meetings of the boys, always marked by very absurd comments, along with several references to events and programs of the time, in addition to funny cameos by figures from the 90s and old acquaintances of “That ’70s Show.”
