MADRID, June 27 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The authorities of Taiwan have raised the travel alert level to China this Thursday and have recommended that the population not move to the area as a result of the threats made by Beijing about the possibility of “executing” those people considered “staunch defenders” of Taiwanese independence.

Liang Wen Chieh, spokesperson for Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council, pointed out during a press conference that this warning also applies to cities such as Hong Kong and Macau and insisted on the importance of not moving to the mainland “unless it is strictly necessary”, according to information from the CNA network.

China, which considers Taiwan as another province under its sovereignty, has harshly criticized the island’s new president, Lai Ching Te, whom it considers a strong defender of Taiwanese separatism. The Chinese Government carried out significant military maneuvers immediately after taking office, a measure that set off all the alarms in Taiwan and the United States, Taipei’s main ally.

Last week, by announcing a tightening of the Penal Code, China threatened to execute Taiwanese separatists in extreme cases, which has caused an increase in tension between the parties.

“If it is not necessary to go, then don’t do it,” said Liang, adding that this is not a ban on visiting the territory but rather a “protection” measure for Taiwanese.
