This Thursday from Cartagena, Ecopetrol presented the 2024-2034 roadmap to ensure the supply of natural gas to the country.

According to the president of the company, Ricardo Roa, the initiative part of a shortfall estimated at 83 Gbtud in 2025, of which it is expected that 61 Gbtud can be covered with options from national gas.

To the above, it is expected to add an estimated 100 Gbtud of gas imported through regasification systems and possibly through the Antonio Ricaurte gas pipeline, from Venezuela.

“The company is able to guarantee the supply of natural gas to the country in the short, medium and long terms, However, in order to achieve this objective, regulatory flexibility for the commercialization of gas and agility in permits and licenses in environmental and social matters are urgently required.obtaining the special license from the United States Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) for the import of Venezuelan gas and the elimination of restrictions on transportation infrastructure.”

Context of gas roadmap in Colombia

Last May, Ecopetrol launched a market Information Request process to learn about alternatives for receipt, storage and regasification of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG).

Within the process, more than 10 companies have expressed interest. In the first week of July, the reception of indicative offers will end and it is expected, in the second half of 2024, to advance the contracting of services associated with LNG regasification.

The Ecopetrol Group assured that it is evaluating present supply aggregates to the market from a portfolio coming from several long-term supply alternatives, with which to guarantee demand coverage from 2025 and ensure a competitive price.

The strategy also includes that, starting in 2029, begin the entry of gas from offshore material discoveries such as Uchuva, Gorgon and Glaucus. According to the company, the discovered potential in Caribbean waters is between 4 and 12 terabytes of cubic (TPC), which would allow the country to multiply its current reserves by up to three times.

Consequently, drilling activities for the Komodo-1 exploratory well are expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2024. If successful, an exploratory portfolio of new opportunities would be enabled in an area of ​​1.6 million hectares, with a potential that It could reach 50 cubic terapies (TPC), 17 times the country’s current reserves.
