Organized by the government of Neuquén, this July 15th from 9.30am the day will be held “Net Zero Dead Cow” at the Cutral Co Cultural Center. The event was held to discuss the path that Neuquén non-conventional production has towards carbon neutrality.

The presentation took place this Thursday, attended by the municipal mayor Ramón Solano Rioseco and the provincial Minister of Infrastructure Rubén Etcheverry.

Etcheverry, explained that for To ensure carbon neutrality, four axes of intervention and recommendations are usually mentioned: efficiency of processes, inputs and raw materials; promoting nature-based solutions – such as maintaining forests and conservation areas without alteration; carrying out conservation agricultural practices or forestry for carbon capture; technological improvements; and disruptive changes.

For his part, Rioseco explained that “in such a complex, contaminated world with so many environmental risks, We must address new clean energy alternatives. This is where the future is headed and we, as a community, have been able to take these first steps and we also invite all companies to this event.”

Neuquén took note of these axes and is already making progress on some of them. The governor Rolando Figueroa announced that on March 1 during the opening of the legislative sessions that he will promote a plan to generate “a distinctive seal” for Vaca Muerta gas. “We must generate our own seal for our gas: zero carbon emissions, which will allow us to reach highly demanding markets such as those in Europe with a distinctive quality of gas,” he expressed on that occasion.

At the beginning of this administration, the Neuquén government signed an agreement with the company Vista to analyze the feasibility of offsetting carbon emissions generated by hydrocarbon activity through the forest conversion of the forests planted in Huinganco.

Currently, the Ministry of Infrastructure is working on the Blue Network project, which consists of aqueducts to bring industrial water to the oil wells in Vaca Muerta and plans to become a Green Network later, with an irrigation network at the ends of the aqueducts. In this regard, Minister Etcheverry considered that “it is vital to reduce the water impact and also the carbon footprint, lower costs and improve safety.”

In addition, the Ministry of Energy is analyzing a project presented by AESA – a service provider in Vaca Muerta – to convert part of the waste produced during oil extraction into “capsules” that can be used as pavement under the asphalt on the roads to the oil fields.
