The measure must be adhered to catalytic converter cars registered before 1 September 2011 and motorcycles registered before 2010.

The perimeter of the restriction considers the entire province of Santiago, also adding to the communes of Puente Alto and San Bernardo.

  • Motorcycles registered before September 2010: digits 2 and 3.
  • Cars, station wagons and similar registered before September 2011 with green seal: digits 2 and 3.
  • Cars, station wagons and similar without green seal: digits 4, 5, 6, and 7. Prohibition of driving within the Americo Vespucio ring.
  • Private, interurban and rural transport buses: digits 4, 5, 6, and 7.
  • Cargo transportation: digits 4, 5, 6, and 7.

The restriction is part of the Critical Episode Management (GEC) program, with which It seeks to reduce the levels of environmental pollution in the capital and also adds the following measures.

  • In Environmental Pre-Emergency, the permanent restriction (2 digits) is maintained and cargo vehicles are added, including pickup trucks, regardless of the year of manufacture.
  • While in an Environmental Emergency, catalytic vehicles maintain their permanent restriction and two random digits are added.

What is the fine for violating the restriction?

If a driver is caught violating the vehicle restriction, he or she is exposed to a fine of 1 to 1.5 UTM, that is, between $65,000 and $97,000.

The supervision is carried out by Carabineros, municipal inspectors and inspectors from the Ministry of Transport, along with the work of the system of 430 cameras distributed in the Metropolitan Region.
