The National Forestry Corporation (CONAF) in Magallanes together with the special school Club de Leones Cruz del Sur, carried out a joint project that allowed children, young people and adults with some degree of physical or sensory disability to tour and get to know part of the Magallanes National Reserve.

The activity, which seeks to contribute to its rehabilitation process, is part of a project presented by CONAF last year to the National Regional Development Fund (FNDR) of the Regional Government, and which consisted of two guided visits to trails with universal accessibility of this wild area, located just 7 kilometers from the city of Punta Arenas.

Around 30 people, all students from the special school, benefited from the project, which included winter recreational activities so that they feel integrated into the environment and are able to break their own barriers by enjoying nature and its benefits for mental and physical health.

In both activities, the use of personal safety elements was contemplated as well as the support of trekking poles, with the Reserve’s park rangers leading the tours, with the constant support of teachers and therapists from the special school.
