Darwin Núñez, from being highly criticized in Liverpool to being reborn in Uruguay and being the sensation of the Copa América 2024

Uruguayan striker Darwin Núñez has experienced a complete rebirth in the current Copa América after finishing a very difficult season with Liverpool where he received thousands of criticisms for his lack of definition and his few goals in the English championship.

He scored his second goal in two Copa America matches against Bolivia on Thursday. Since October, the striker has scored in each of the matches he has played with Uruguay, an unstoppable streak that the Celeste hopes to continue to build on.

The Liverpool striker has scored 10 goals in the last seven games played for Uruguay. Some enviable numbers that Colombia, Brazil, Argentina and Bolivia have suffered (two goals) in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers; Mexico, in a friendly (three goals), and Panama and Bolivia in this Copa América.

Nunez The match did not start in the best way. Two minutes into the game, Nahitan Nández sent a precise cross into the area, but he, unmarked, headed the ball wide of the Bolivian goal.

The former Peñarol player was not discouraged, however. As in Uruguay’s debut against Panama on Sunday, where he missed numerous clear chances, Núñez was able to keep his cool and ended up scoring.

In the 21st minute, Maximiliano Araújo drove down the left, saw Núñez’s run and played a great through ball. The forward received the ball and beat Bolivian goalkeeper Guillermo Viscarra with a low left-footed shot to make it 2-0.

A deserved award after a good start to the game in which he offered himself again and again and was a nightmare for the Bolivian defense.
