With the arrival of June 28th the different celebrations begin around the International LGBTIQ+ Pride Day. As happens in many cities around the world, one of the most famous international demonstrations takes place in the Spanish capital around this time.

The organization Madrid Pride (MADO) culminates ten days of events with a large demonstration through the city centre. MADO defines this event as the representation of state Pride, “the most crowded in Europe and one of the most crowded in the world”which in other years has reached a total of 2 million people.

The call comes from the different associations that make up MADO, among which is the Association of LGBT Companies and Professionals of the Community of Madrid (AEGAL)the State Federation of Lesbians, Gays, Trans, Bisexuals, Intersexuals and more (FELGTBI+)he Collective of Lesbians, Gays, Transsexuals and Bisexuals of Madrid (COGAM) who have worked for years in the organization in collaboration with the City of Madrid and the residents of the neighborhood Chueca.

This demonstration will not be the only one held in the country, a multitude of events and protest actions in favor of the LGTBIQ+ collective will take place throughout the state territory throughout these days. Its main objective is to make diversity visible and demand equal rights for lesbians, gays, trans, bisexuals, intersex, queers and other people within the group.

From MADO they make clear their main objective for 2024: “This year we will once again ensure that the city of Madrid and our Pride, the largest in Europe, continue to be a international benchmark for Peace, Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Freedom.

Madrid Pride Parade Schedule

The national LGTBIQ+ Pride demonstration is always held on the first Saturday of July, which this year falls on the 6th. The demonstration will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the center of Madrid.

From MADO they intend with this 2024 demonstration that “the city of Madrid and our Pride, the largest in Europe, continues to be an international benchmark for Peace, Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Freedom.”

FELGTBI+ and COGAM remind us that this act is “one of the main tools we have to conquer our rights and achieve real and effective equality in all areas of society” and insist on the importance of joining this claim in view of the increase in hate speech and crimes against the collective: “Certain groups want the regression of society and the disappearance of diversity and everything that deviates from their constricted lifestyle.”

This year, the celebration of LGTBIQ+ Pride in Madrid is especially involved in the controversy derived from the poster launched by the City Council itself to promote these days. The Popular Party of Madrid reduced the protest character of Pride to condoms, high heels and teddy bears.

Route of the Madrid Pride Parade

The LGTBIQ+ Pride demonstration in Madrid will leave from the Plaza del Emperador Carlos Vwhere the well-known Atocha station is located, the same starting point as years ago. Late in the evening, you will arrive at the Columbus Square to end the tour with the reading of the manifesto, which this year has as its motto “Education, rights and peace: Pride that transforms”.
